What Is Intensive Outpatient Treatment (IOP)?

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP Treatment) provide medical care to people with mental health who do not require hospitalization. Care is provided at a treatment center without the need or opportunity to stay at the facility.

Most people admitted to IOPs receive medication management and supportive therapy, such as counseling and group therapy, as part of their treatment plan. IOPs can offer more comprehensive treatment, including therapy designed to help with co-occurring substance use disorders.

What Is Partial Hospitalization (PHP)?

PHP enables patients to transition from an inpatient program to a more autonomous environment while still receiving highly structured support.

The flexibility of the PHP allows patients to establish control over their disorder under a less restrictive approach. Patients receive treatment for roughly six to eight hours per day and often live at their residence or in a supportive living residence.
